In light of the NFL's Rodger Godell making an issue out of the amount of money that the NFL rookies are making and with the NBA draft just completeing - I ran across a very funny and intereseting article that I wanted to share....

We have all heard of the 'horror' stories of players making $MILLIONS$ and then next thing you know.....there is an article about foreclosure, selling off items and repositions!

ESPN's Rick Riley has decided to lend a hand to the new class of rookies in the NBA and has come up with a Top Ten on how to run through millions with ease.

Top Ten:

1. Screw up, deny it, then fight by using every lawyer and dime you have.

2. Buy a house the size of Delaware.

3. Buy many, many cars.

4. Buy a jet.

5. Spend stupid money on other really stupid stuff.

6. Hire an agent who sniffs a lot and/or is constantly checking the scores on his BlackBerry.

7. Sign over power of attorney.

8. Spend like the checks will never stop.

9. Just ball.

10. Most of all, set up a huge support system around you.

A couple of days ago I was talking to one of my boys and he is talking about Rodger Godell and his want for a salary cap for rookies in the NFL. This eventually lead to a unheated, non-argumentative 'debate' in which my boy felt that it is needed because in his words, "these young players are getting too much as unproven cats!"

Well before going any further, let me paint the picture for you. cbssports reported on Friday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said it's "ridiculous" to reward untested rookies with lucrative contracts. The article goes on to state that his feelings come from the fact that these young players walk in the door with $30 million dollars without playing a down and that the money should be going to the proven player that has already proven that he can perform!

My initial thoughts:

I think if this is an attempt to pay more or even grant guaranteed contracts for the players - especially the veterans - I am all for it and behind it. However, if this is just an attempt to put more money back into the hands of the owners and limit the amount of money that they players receive - then I think Godell is crazy!

I wonder what REAL sports/football fans think about this one???
